System Codes and Groups

Codes ensure that data can be validated and classified in a structured fashion. Listed below are the different types of codes (sometimes known in NOVUS as a GID) held within the system. These can be managed through the use of the CODES program.

GID 1 - GID 20

GID 1 - Policy Types

Used in the RISKNEW program. Types in the Q and S processing groups.

Transactions against proportional treaties must be carried out using the proportional treaty program TTYMEN.

Code: A two-character alphanumeric defined by the user
Processing Group: The policy Processing Group (GID 14) to which the Policy Type maps. Determines the method of processing.
See Code 14 'Processing Group'. (List of values available). In RISKNEW when creating a new risk,
the user will only be offered Policy Types which are correctly mapped for the Policy Mode (GID 87) to
which the Processing Group (GID 14) of the Policy Type is mapped.
Risk Details Type: Risk Details type (GID 72) for Policy Type
Description: Free format description of the code
Use Level: Select from the pre-defined list 1-9 representing user authority level in WHO(optional)
Enabled: A flag to denote whether a code is enabled for use or disabled.
Currently set by Morning Data - please contact MDL for assistance with this feature.

GID 2 - Transaction Types

Used in the TRANPT and other transaction processing programs. Each type is attached to a category, premium, cash, claim, etc. Although new codes can be added, Morning Data must be contacted in order to amend the software to accommodate them.

Code: A two or three-character alphanumeric code defined by the user
Group: The transaction category to which the transaction type belongs. See Code 27 'Transaction Categories'.

GID 3 - Business Categories

Enables grouping of business classes (Code 12)

Code: An up to four-character alphanumeric defined by the user

ECM Business Category: Select from a pre-defined list representing business category for electronic connectivity module

GID 4 - Loss Status

Used in the CLMMEN program page 1. Allows the user to create a list of codes for the position of a claim in the workflow. e.g. 'just entered', 'with insurers', etc. This is not to be confused with claims status which is a system code with values open, closed, denied, reopened. This code can be used in reportage, it is not used in processing claims in the software.

GID 5 - Catastrophe

Used in the CLMMEN program page 1. Lloyd's catastrophe codes are used to assist underwriters in identifying the various interests involved.

Catastrophe Code: An up to four-character alphanumeric code allocated by Lloyd's or defined by the user
Description: Description of the catastrophe code allocated by Lloyd's or free format description of the code
Location Code: Location of the loss. See Code 6 'Location Code'. (List of values available)
Loss Details: Free-format further details of the loss
Start Date: Start date of loss allocated by Lloyd's or free format
End Date: End date of loss allocated by Lloyd's or free format
Date Qualifier: Definition of date. See Code 17 'Loss Date Qualifiers'. (List of values available)

GID 6 - Location

Used in the CLMMEN program page 1 to indicate the location of a loss. It is also used in the catastrophe code screen (Code 5). This code can be used to represent a location anywhere between a postcode and the northern/southern hemisphere that is meaningful to the user.

GID 7 - Division

Used in the ERISK, CASHENTRY, and NLPOST programs.

A division must be assigned to each policy. Transactions against this policy are analysed in the nominal ledger (NL) by division. NOVUS is initially configured with division ‘X’. When a new division code is created, the system automatically creates period summary totals for that new division. These are for all NL (nominal ledger) unposted periods as configured in the CALENDAR program for all known banking currencies. Additionally, sets of closed period records are created for the last NL posted period, one set for each banking currency. The Claims Processing Type is supported by a list of values containing F for FGU Processing and A for Incremental Processing.

First Line of Address: Free-format contact details which can be used in various documents in the system, e.g. statements.
Second Line of Address: Free-format contact details which can be used in various documents in the system, e.g. statements.
Third Line of Address: Free-format contact details which can be used in various documents in the system, e.g. statements.
Fourth Line of Address: Free-format contact details which can be used in various documents in the system, e.g. statements.
Fifth Line of Address: Free-format contact details which can be used in various documents in the system, e.g. statements.
Telephone: Free-format contact details which can be used in various documents in the system, e.g. statements.
Fax: Free-format contact details which can be used in various documents in the system, e.g. statements.
Email: Free-format contact details which can be used in various documents in the system, e.g. statements.
Contact: Free-format contact details which can be used in various documents in the system, e.g. statements.
Claims Processing Type: A flag that affects the way that the entries are made into the claims system.
Select 'F' for from ground up (FGU), where the new entry replaces all previous entries on the claim.
Select 'A' for aggregate (or incremental), where a new entry will be added to the existing entries.
External Nominal Ledger: Up to five-character alphanumeric code defined by the user to denote external nominal ledger
Aggregated Limits: Select 'Y' where the limits are reduced as claims are entered against a policy or 'N' where the limits apply to each and every claim.
Broker Pseudonym: Three-character Lloyd's broker pseudonym
Broker Code: Four-digit Lloyd's broker number

GID 8 - Journal Types

Used in the NLPOST program to validate the type of journal being posted to the nominal ledger

Code: All alpha types are reserved e.g. C, P, R, S and Y. The User may add numeric journal types in the range 0 through 9.
Journal types can be assigned to nominal ledger codes in the NLACC program to ensure that only the correct type of journals are permitted.
Alpha codes are system codes and cannot be set up or changed by the user.

GID 9 - Occupation/Occupancy

Used in the ERISK program to indicate the occupation of the policyholder or type of occupancy of premises as appropriate to the policy

Code: A one or two-character alphanumeric code defined by the user
Group: Occupation/Occupancy can be assigned to a class code. See Code 31 'Class Codes'. HELIX only. (List of values available)

GID 10 - Area

Used to define the location of a risk. Can be used in conjunction with country code (Code 13) to give a lower level of location.

GID 11 - Discount

Code: A one or two-character alphanumeric code defined by the user
Description: Free format description of the code defined by the user
Scheme: Up to six-character alphanumeric description defined by the user for the name of the scheme to which the discount relates
Sect: A one or two-character alphanumeric defined by the user for the section of the scheme to which the discount relates
Disc%: The percentage discount for this code

GID 12 - Business Class

Used in the ERISK program to determine the type of (re)insurance protection

Code: A one or two-character alphanumeric code defined by the user

GID 13 - Country

Used in the ERISK and PARTNER programs. Can be used in conjunction with area code (see Code 10) and zones (see Code 43). It is advised that two-character ISO country codes are used to ensure compatibility with other systems.

Code: Up to three-character alphanumeric code defined by the user. Morning Data strongly recommends the use of the two-character alpha ISO code
VAT Status: Up to three-character alphanumeric code defined by the user for the VAT status of the country: E is Exempt, O is outside scope, R is VAT rateable
Description: Free format for the name of the country to which the code refers.

GID 14 - Processing Groups

Used by NOVUS to determine how to process a transaction (Facultative/Direct, XoL, Surplus, StopLoss or Quotashare etc). For example, a policy in the Quotashare group can only be processed using the treaty system program TTYMEN. This code is maintained by Morning Data, not by the user.

The Processing Group codeset (GID 14) in CODES maps the codes to the different Policy Modes (GID 87), sets the default RI flag values, the Transaction Route options and maps to Acord codesets.

Code: Single character alpha code (A - Z) to which a policy type (Code 1) is attached. The available codes are:
D (Direct Commercial)

Acord Contract Nature: The equivalent Acord code from table A33
Acord Contract Type: The equivalent Acord code from table A29

GID 15 - Section Groups

Used in the RISKNEW program to determine the headings and layout used in the risk details screen. This code is maintained by Morning Data, not by the user. If none of the existing section groups is appropriate for the type of risk to process please contact Morning Data to have a new section group/risk details screen added.

GID 16 - Analysis

Used in the CLMMEN program page 2. Each line of a claim can be assigned a code for use in reportage at a later date. This is not currently used in any reports but can be incorporated into reports if required.

GID 17 - Loss Date Qualifiers

Used in the CLMMEN program page 1 to define what each loss date represents, i.e. date of loss, date of discovery.

GID 18 - Section Type

Used in the ERISK program in conjunction with section groups (Code 15) to select the headings and layout used in the risk details screen. Maintained by the user. For example, the Section Type (GID 18) code table has been improved by the removal of the 'Is Terrorism' checkbox column; it is now possible to map a Section Type (GID 18) to a Section Reporting Group (GID 60) - e.g., WA (War), TR (Terrorism), EL (Employers Liability), CY (Cyber) to support reporting and document production requirements.

SIR: Enter 'Y' if the sums insured in the risk details screen apply to this section type

Sums Insured % Default percentage for sums insured on risk details screen or 'EL' for ELTO reportable section.
Section Reporting Group: Section report group

Acord code: The equivalent Acord code from table A34
Section Sub-class: The section sub-class (regulator grouping) to which the section type is attached

GID 19 - Not Taken Up / Cancellations

Used in the ERISK and POLREN programs to indicate the reason for a policy not being taken up. If an NTU (not taken up) code is entered in the ERISK program, further processing of transactions is prevented.

GID 21 - Mailing

Used in the PARTNER program for mailshots

GID 22 - Department

Used in the ERISK program to allow further analysis in IBA (individual brokerage account) ledger. Divisions (Code 7) extend throughout the software, (NL (nominal ledger), IBA, PL (purchase ledger)) whereas departments information is only held in the IBA.

GID 23 - MRC/LMP Slip Groups

Used in the ERISK and SLIP programs for MRC/LMP (London market principles) templated slips

GID 24 - MIS Types

Entry types in the MIS system - now retired.

GID 26 - Bordereau Styles

Used in the OUTBORD program to produce custom bordereaux formats for individual insurers

Code: Up to four-character alphanumeric defined by the user

Bordereau Type: The type of bordereau to which this applies, RD (risk details)/LB (Lloyd's prem reporting tool booked)/LP (Lloyd's prem reporting tool paid)/CB (Lloyd's claims reporting tool booked)/CP (Lloyd's claims reporting tool paid)/LN (Lloyd's premium paid V5) etc.

GID 27 - Transaction Categories

Used in reports such as the ACCLIST program to report on, for example, premium transactions only.

GID 28 - Peril Codes

Used in the LIMITS and the claims system CLMMEN programs to create different sets of limits within a single section depending on the nature of the loss

GID 29 - NL Groups

Define the layout of the balance sheet produced by the NLFINS. Not applicable if the nominal ledger (NL) module is not installed.

GID 31 - Class

Used in the risk details screen. The second level for rating engine calculations in HELIX.

GID 34 - Sector

Used in the ERISK program. HELIX only. Refers to business sector, e.g. government, technology

GID 35 - Flood Zone Group

Used in the PARTNER program for direct property insurance.

GID 36 - Transmission Methods

Used in the COV and PROFSCHED programs to record how the cover note or policy was sent.

GID 37 - Contract Certainty Exceptions

Used in the ERISK program for contract certainty reporting. Defined by the user and entered in the ERISK contract certainty pop up window.

GID 38 - Evidence of Cover

The code determines what evidence of cover is applicable to the risk.

GID 39 - Risk Codes

Risk code as per London market definitions. Section level code entered (for convenience) in a section within the ERISK program.

GID 40 - Partner Status

Quality rating of an account. Used in the PARTNER program.

GID 41 - GID 60

GID 41 - Organisation

Used in the PARTNER program where a head office arrangement applies. Can be used in conjunction with zones (see code 43 'Zones').

GID 42 - REPGEN Tab Groups

Used in the REPSETUP program to put REPGEN program reports into small groups displayed on tab pages.

GID 43 - Zones

Can be used in conjunction with location codes (code 6), business categories (code 12), country codes (code 13), organisation (code 41), vessel class (code 43).

GID 44 - INVU Folder IDs

The folder IDs and document type names and IDs relate to document types as stored in the INVU document management system. If the INVU document management system is not used, this area of the codes system is not required.

Used in the purchase ledger module to set up the rates of VAT used in the system.

Used in the TRANREV program to indicate the reason for the reversal of a transaction

GID 48 - FCA Client Classes

These are the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) client classes that are set within the system. Used in the PARTNER program.

GID 49 - ACORD Doc Types

These are ACORD (Association for Cooperative Operations Research and Development) document types that are set within the system.

These are electronic connectivity module (ECM) slip types that are set within the system.

Used in the ERISK program and risk details screens. Used in conjunction with state/territory code (Code 57) and country code (Code 13).

GID 57 - State/Territory Codes

Used in the ERISK program and risk details screens. Used in conjunction with county codes (Code 55) and country codes (Code 13).

GID 58 - Conveyance Method

These are conveyance methods that are user-defined.

GID 59 - Codes Tab Pages

These are the codes that define the tabs that are available in the CODES program. and are set within the system.

GID 61 - Vessel Types

These are vessel types that are used in the risk details screen for RISKDETS_Y and are user-defined.

GID 62 - Vessel Flag
