Slips are free-text WP documents generated using Microsoft Word which contain details of the risk and cover required. The templates available are policy type based and can be pre-formatted to meet your company's specific requirements.

Contact Morning Data for additional assistance.

The SLIP program will accept either a quotation number or policy number, and a year. It is not possible to create a quotation from within the SLIP program – this functionality is in the INDICT and QUOTENEW programs.

Multiple slip versions can be produced for a quotation - however a risk can only have one slip version.

The slip is discussed with prospective insurers and, after agreement, used to record a (re)-insurer’s preparedness to underwrite all or part of the risk. Although the content of the slip is determined by the user, the system expects a direct pro-forma slip to be materially different from a reinsurance slip, both in content and layout.

The direct pro-forma slip is built from a template in which the user enters details of the goods insured: typically in the case of yacht insurance, the hull, masts, and outboard motors etc. The pro-forma slip would also contain any navigational constraints and details of the clauses, which would apply to the cover. This pro-forma document can be used for rating purposes with the insurers.

A reinsurance slip sets out the proposed cover in descriptive terms such as; period, name of the insured, commission and general details. Most of these details can be included cover note. It is easier to copy the slip for the previous year or similar policy to copy from rather than use a standard template each time.

The system's insurance and re-insurance quotations differ both in layout and system design. The system provides a quotation tracking system for re-insurance quotes and a client profile system for insurance quotations.

Field Descriptions

Field name Description
Quote/Policy No: Enter the quotation / policy number of the required slip. Press tab to obtain the next available quotation slip number (shown at the right hand side of the screen). This will generate a new slip for this quotation number.
Year: The quotation / policy number year is used to index the slip within the WP area. Once entered this cannot be changed although a different year can be specified when converting a quotation to a policy.
Reinsurance check box: This is populated as Y if reinsurance or N for direct. This flag influences the type of documentation and the wording on the documents produced by the system.
Policy Type: Enter the policy type. This has been extracted from the quotation.
Country: Select country.
Ref: A free format (proposer) reference must be entered for a direct slip. It is optional for reinsurance slips.
Version: This defaults to ‘01’. Up to ‘99’ slip versions can be created. Subsequent slip versions must be created sequentially.
Slip Production Option: Options are: ‘C’, ‘R’, or ‘T’.

The ‘C’ option allows you to create a slip from a blank document. The ‘R’ option will require the ‘replicate from’ details to be completed (below). ‘T’ allows you to specify a document to copy from directly.

Replicate Previous Slip

Quote
policy no:

Replicate from this quote/policy number.
Year: Replicate from this quote/policy number year.
Slip version: Replicate from this slip version.
Template: ‘T’ and ‘I’ options only. Enter or browse to the full path name of the document you wish to copy from. This is not validated so unless a valid path and document name is specified an error will occur, for example s:\shared\scanslip.
Include Slip Wrapper: Y or N for standard company wrapper

How to create a slip

1. From the documentation section on the right hand panel for the risk, select slip or launch the SLIP program in NOVUS Shortcut box.
2. Enter the quote or policy number.
3. Complete form filling in as fully as possible
4. To create a slip from a template select ‘T’ and enter full path of the WP template to be used eg: C:\wp\templates\general.doc. 5. If ‘C’ (create) is selected a new blank slip will be created
6. Select Y for a SLIP Wrapper - ensure you have a template called "XXX_DUM_Slipwrapf.doc" where XXX is the name of the dataset and saved in the Dummies W2000 folder. It will require merge fields to be inserted in it to present a tailored document to the User for the policy in question. 7. Press [COMMIT]. The document will be displayed in Microsoft Word. Two documents will be presented if the SLIP Wrapper is selected. After editing, saving and printing the document, close the document or exit from Word.

How to replicate a slip

1. From the documentation section on the right-hand panel for the risk, select slip or launch the SLIP program in NOVUS Shortcut box.
2. Enter the quote or policy number, year, RI flag, and slip version.
3. Select ‘R’ replicate and enter a quote or policy number and slip version to copy from.
4. Press [COMMIT]. Press [COMMIT]. The document will be displayed in Microsoft Word. After editing, saving, and printing the document, close the document or exit from Word.

How to edit a slip

1. From the documentation section on the right-hand panel for the risk, select slip or launch the SLIP program in NOVUS Shortcut box.
2. Enter the quote or policy number
3. ‘E’ will appear in the action field indicating that the only option here is to Edit.
4. Press [COMMIT]. The document will be displayed in Microsoft Word. After editing, saving and printing the document, close the document or exit from Word.

NB: If pasting in text from an electronically supplied third party slip, ensure there are NO section breaks in the text, and that the paste does NOT overwrite the section break at the end of the receiving slip.

Resetting flags

It is possible to reset flags in the program by pressing f5 followed by [COMMIT]. The program will build a new document next time the program is used rather than use the current document held in the WP repository. For detailed information on how the process works, see the Reset Flags page in this wiki.

Documentation

The f number fields and tags for the slip document can be found on the Slip documents page.
